His Eminence Archbishop of Avila Dorotheos (in the world Demetrios Leovaris) was born in Pitiounta on the island of Chios in 1948. He came to Jerusalem in 1963. Graduating from the Patriarchal School, he was tonsured Monk and in 1969 he was anointed Deacon.
In 1973 he was anointed Priest. He received the Office of Archimandrite in 1975. He is a graduate of the Theological School of the University of Athens.
He served as abbot at the Holy Monasteries of the Holy Forerunner in Jerusalem and of the Prophet Elijah in Haifa, as well as President of the Estate Council.
In March 1991 he was nominated Member of the Holy and Sacred Synod and in October of the same year Patriarchal Representative to Akra and President of the local Judicial Court.
In October of 1998 he was elected and anointed Bishop of Avila. In 2000 he was advanced to Archbishop of Avila and was nominated Patriarchal Representative to Bethlehem.
In 2001 he was nominated Patriarchal Representative to Madeva. In 2005 he was re-appointed President of the Estate Council.

In 2008 he was appointed Archivist.
